Going Green on the Go; Purchasing Clean Air Vehicles
On January 1, 2012, the California Department of Motor Vehicles will issue 40,000 green CAV (Clean Air Vehicle) decals to applicants buying or leasing cars which meet the Enhanced Advanced technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle requirements. Having a vehicle type that is listed on the ARB’s (Air Resources Board) website will afford you the ability to receive a white decal should the green allocation be exhausted. Making conscious decisions about your car purchase may not only mean you are reducing the carbon emissions of your vehicle, but may have the added effect of reducing your Los Angeles auto insurance premiums.

With the green or white CAV decals, drivers with no passengers will be able to utilize the car pool or diamond lanes on Californian freeways. Access to these high occupancy vehicle lanes could mean saving time for you and reduced running costs on your vehicle. With so many benefits to both you the driver, these initiatives may encourage more people to consider the purchase of vehicles meeting these requirements.
Hybrid and low emission vehicles may slowly become the norm but until then the rewards for drivers choosing to look at this type of purchase should grow. Insurers offer discounts for hybrid vehicles. When you take into account the savings on running costs, the fact your vehicle is reducing the impact on our air along with potential savings on your Los Angeles auto insurance, it will make sense to look at purchasing a Clean Air Vehicle.
