HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR COMMERCIAL TRUCK INSURANCE

3/11/2011 5:00:00 PM

1.Get a 12 month commercial policy

By getting a 12 month commercial policy you can get a discount rather than the 6month policy. If you get a 6 month policy and you get into an accident, get a speeding ticket, or make a claim during your 6 month commercial insurance policy then after your insurance policy is over you will have to renew your policy at a higher rate. A 12 month insurance policy will not change on driving record or claims during the 12 month period.

2.Driving Record

Many insurance companies go based on your driving record. By driving safely throughout the year you can reduce the cost of your insurance and you can avoid a high premium, so make sure to keep your driving record clean as can be.

3.Garaging

Garaging zip code is the address of the location your truck is parked. You can get big discounts just by switching one zip code over, the rate could go down as much as 25%. Do not cheat and say your garage is in one city but really your garage is somewhere else, you could have a chance that the insurance company might not cover any loss. Most insurance companies do an audit to verify this information and big companies are starting to do proof of garaging location, so save your lies and speak the truth.

4.Annual miles

Make sure you have an accurate number of miles you are going to drive each year. It helps to know that insurance companies base your driving radius on air miles. Most people over estimate their radius. Make sure to ask your insurance radius to re evaluate your radius based on where you go and how far you usually drive away from your garaging location.

5.Credit score

If you have good credit, you'll pay less for your insurance. Many insurance companies have begun upon the customer’s age, marital status, and credit scores for total premium.  You may disagree with the charges, but insurance companies argue that customers with lower credit scores also tend to be less careful drivers.

6. Pay policy in full

By paying in full for your policy you can save up to $15 a month because you can avoid all of the monthly installment fees that insurance companies charge on top of your insurance premium. When it comes to commercial trucking insurance, most companies will give you an additional 5 to 8% discount just for paying in full at the beginning of your policy.

7. Year, Make, Model

Model, make, and year can save you on your auto insurance. If it's a new vehicle your premium goes up and if it’s an old vehicle it goes down. On Commercial auto insurance Peterbilt and Mack trucks are cheaper to insure then other makes of big rigs because those that buy Peterbilt and Mack truck-tractors have a tendency to get into fewer accidents and make their payments on time. Auto insurance companies have a system for rating every car make and model which gives them an estimate of your pay.

8. Driving experience

You can get discounts for having driving experience or for taking driver safety courses that give you a certificate of completion. Having more than 3 years of driving experience with your commercial driver license can give you a 10% discount, this can be a pretty big discount. Make sure to ask for any other discounts that are available to you.
