Tips to Stay Cool During the Riverside County Heat Advisory

7/15/2011 10:15:00 AM

Summer time is starting to really heat up! A heat advisory has been issued for Riverside County until July 19th. Cooling centers will be open all week and residents are advised to go at some point during the heat wave for relief. The cool centers will be providing snacks, water, and indoor activities, and will be openly during the week. Check with your local Riverside cool center for specific hours.

As a Riverside insurance agency we want to provide you with some tips to stay cool during the overwhelming heat that we occur every summer season. Here are a few tips we gathered from Medicine Net to keep cool for the next few weeks.

1)      Change your workout time. If you workout outside try and plan to exercise later on at night when the temperatures are cooler. If you have to work out during the day try walking instead of running or decreasing your level of exertion.

2)      Stay hydrated. Probably one of the most important tips. During the extreme heat making sure your body stays hydrated will prevent heat stroke, sleepiness, and shortness of breath.

3)      Avoid caffeine and alcohol, two things that cause dehydration.

4)      If you do not have air conditioning, try to spend the majority of your day in a library, shopping center, or a cool center as mentioned above.

5)      Wear looser fitting clothing. It will keep you cooler and make you sweat less when outdoors.

These are just a few tips to stay cool in the Riverside area this summer. Make sure to use common sense and avoid the heat if at all possible.
