Ways To Prevent Cancer & Staying Healthy

1.Maintain a Healthy Weight- Keeping weight in check is often easier, but a few simple tips can help. First, if you're overweight focus on not gaining any more weight. Then try to take off some extra pounds this can help improve your health. Intergrate in physical activities and try to be more active and take walks around your neighborhood. Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Choose smaller portions and eat more slowly. For parents and grandparents, limit childrens television, computer, encourage them on healthy food, and activities during free time. 

2.Exercise Regularly- It's important to exercise everyday atleast 30 minutes of activity or more. Stay motivated at all times and choose activities you enjoy doing like walking, gardening, and dancing these are also counted as exercises. Staying active and doing small activities can help.

3.No Smoking- Smoking can be addicting, but quiting can be a step forward to a healthier better lifestyle. It is hard quiting but it has its sweet rewards. More than 1,000 Americans stop for good everyday, it often takes six or seven tries before you quit but don't give up, keep trying. Your workplace or health plan may offer a quit-smoking program or you can speak to a health-care provider for help.

4.Eat a Healthy Diet- You should focus on eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Choosing chicken, fish, or beans instead of red meat can be better. It's also important to cut back on bad fats (saturated & trans fats) and choose healthy fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) more often. Putting  fruit on your cereal like bannana or eating vegetables as a snack are good ways on eating healthy.

5.Drinking Alcohol- Drinking alcohol constantly can increase the risk of cancer but drinking it once a while can be good for the heart. Avoid drinking alcohol with meals or drinking everyday like a water glass, it can lead to bad habits. Be conscious of the effects of alcohol, try not to drink around children and set a good example.

6.Sun Protection- Standing in the sun can be pleasing but too much exposure to it can cause skin cancer, including serious melanoma. Skin damage starts early in choldhood, so it's important to start protecting children at early age as well as the adults should be protected by using hats, suncreens (spf-15 and higher with UVA/UVB protection), and dont use lamps or tanning booths, try self-tanning creams instead.

7.Protect Yourself from Sexually Transmitted Infections- Sexually Transmitted infections are linked to a number of different cancers. Protecting yourself and aside from not having sex, the best protectionis to be in a comitted relationship with someone who doesn't have a sexually transmitted diseaese or various partners. For other situations be sure to always use a condom and follow other safe-sex practices. Never rely on your partner to have a condom, always be prepared.

8.Get Screening Tests- There are a number of important tests that can help protect against cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and osteoprosis. Some of the tests find disease early, when they are most treatable, while others can actuallly help keep a disease from developing in the first place. Talk to a health-care professional about which tests you should have and when.

These are conditions that should be tested regularly:

  • Colon and rectal cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • High blood pressure
  • Unhealthy blood cholesterol
  • Obesity or being overweight
  • Low bone density.
